Arrupe Office of Social Formation Formators' Christmas Recollection and Community Fellowship Poster Design, LED Wall Poster, and Program Guide.

This design is inspired by the wise men from the East, also known as the Magi, came to Bethlehem to pay homage to the newborn king of the Jews (Mt. 2:2). “They were overjoyed at seeing this star, and on entering the house they saw the child with Mary his mother. They prostrated themselves and did him homage. Then they opened their treasures and offered him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. (Mt. 2: 10-11)

Interestingly, the word Magi, among sons and daughters of St. Ignatius, is not only familiar during the Christmas season. There is a Latin term in Ignatian spirituality, which is very close to the word Magi, that is key in our invitation to work for the greater glory of God - the Magis. For Fr. James Martin, SJ, magis is "ultimately eliciting great desires” to accomplish great things for God.

It is but wonderful to look into the profound meaning and invitation of the visit of the magi from the East and the Ignatian magis which both possess great spiritual lessons about the great mystery of the Incarnation, and our role and participation in the building of Christ’s kingdom here on Earth (CCC, 567).
